Our story

The beginning: 2013–2017

Nicolas has always loved tea and plants. While working as a hospital pharmacist, he completed a university qualification in herbal medicine and became interested in organic products. He realised that choosing organic often came at too high a price and decided to create a fairly priced brand. He launched the business in 2013 with just a few products. At first, all the stock fitted into the spare bedroom of his flat: Chabiothé was born. Where does the name come from? It brings together “cha”, “bio” and “thé” — cha means tea in several Asian languages.

Our first premises: 2017–2020

Tea lovers quickly discovered Chabiothé. When friends of friends started placing orders, Nicolas knew he was on to something. He left his job as a pharmacist, hired Élisa and moved into premises in Lyon's 7th arrondissement. At last, he had his spare bedroom back! Five years after launch, the business was growing and the team was gradually expanding.

Moving again: 2020 onwards

Since 2020, we have also been welcoming visitors to our new workshop in Lyon's 8th arrondissement. Yes, an online tea shop can have its own physical shop too! Local restaurants, cafés and zero-waste grocery shops have also become part of our story, including Le Point Nommé, Chez Dédé, Le Milord Circus, Rakwe Café, Le Shrubbery, La Tribu des Saveurs, L'Épicerie de Léonie, Torréfaction Papillons and La Cordée.
