Whole organic nutmeg
Nutmeg is the fragrant seed of the tropical nutmeg tree, native to the Maluku (Spice) Islands in Indonesia. Our organically grown whole nutmeg comes from India. Each aromatic seed is approximately 2–3 cm across, and a handy small grater is supplied so you can grate it freshly as needed.
Its warm, richly spiced aroma sits somewhere between cinnamon, pepper and a delicate sweetness. Freshly grated nutmeg is particularly expressive, bringing depth to both sweet and savoury recipes.
Ideas for cooking
Add a small pinch to béchamel sauce, potato gratin, creamy vegetables, soups, soufflés or mashed potato. Nutmeg also works beautifully in gingerbread, cakes, biscuits, custards and warming drinks. For the best flavour, grate a little directly into your preparation just before serving.
Storage and sensible use
Keep whole nutmeg in an airtight container, away from heat, moisture and direct sunlight. Whole seeds retain their fragrance better than pre-ground spice. Use nutmeg in small culinary quantities: large amounts can be toxic. It should not be consumed in high doses as a remedy.
