Our organic South African rooibos
Grown in South Africa, rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) is a wonderfully mellow infusion with a naturally sweet, gently woody flavour and warm amber-red colour. Unlike true tea, which comes from Camellia sinensis, rooibos is a different plant and is naturally caffeine-free.
Our organic rooibos comes from a producer near Graafwater, South Africa, on the country's west coast. Its soft notes can recall vanilla and tonka bean, making it delightful on its own and an excellent base for fruity or spiced blends.
How to enjoy rooibos
Rooibos is delicious hot, with or without milk, and can be sweetened to taste. For a refreshing iced drink, steep in cold water in the fridge for at least two hours; add fresh fruit or spices if you wish. Its relatively low tannin content means that a longer brew is less likely to develop harsh bitterness.
From farm to cup
The harvested stems and leaves are cut, moistened and allowed to oxidise, developing the characteristic red colour before drying and processing. Rooibos has been enjoyed in South Africa for generations and has gradually become popular around the world. Naturally occurring plant compounds contribute to its characteristic flavour, but this drink is not a medical treatment.
