Our organic Japanese Kukicha
Kukicha is a distinctive Japanese green tea made largely from the stems and twigs of the tea plant. Once a humble everyday tea, it is now appreciated around the world for its remarkably gentle, balanced flavour. Our organic Kukicha comes from Japan and is selected in an unroasted style, giving it a fresh, delicately vegetal profile.
Its soft notes can recall fresh greens, sea air and a subtle nuttiness. Kukicha typically contains less caffeine than many conventional leaf teas, although the exact amount varies.
How to brew Kukicha
Use water around 80°C and infuse for about three minutes. A gentle preparation helps bring out the sweeter, subtler notes. Enjoy plain to appreciate its unusual character or pair with a light Japanese-style meal.
How this tea is made
Stems and leaf stalks are separated during the processing of tea leaves and prepared as Kukicha. Some styles are roasted, producing deeper toasted notes, but our version is not roasted, making it lighter and fresher. As a true tea it contains some caffeine.
