Our organic jasmine green tea
One of the great classics of Chinese scented tea, jasmine green tea is prized for its delicate floral fragrance and smooth, gentle flavour. Our organically grown tea comes from Fujian, China. Its jasmine scent is obtained by bringing fresh jasmine blossoms into contact with green tea leaves, allowing the tea to absorb the flowers' natural aroma.
The result is a beautifully balanced cup: fresh and lightly vegetal, with an elegant floral finish rather than a heavy perfume. This traditional scenting method is a distinctive part of the craft of jasmine tea.
Serving and food pairings
To preserve the tea's finesse, pay attention to water temperature and brewing time: hotter water or excessive steeping can bring out bitterness. For iced jasmine tea, leave to infuse in the refrigerator for at least two hours. It is lovely with fruit pastries, delicate desserts or savoury Asian dishes such as dim sum.
How jasmine tea is made
Tea leaves harvested earlier in the year are held until jasmine flowers come into season. Fresh blossoms are layered with the tea for several hours and removed once their fragrance has been transferred. The scenting process may be repeated for greater intensity. Jasmine-scented tea has a long cultural history in China.
