Organic lemon balm from France
Also known as Melissa officinalis, lemon balm is an aromatic herb with a beautifully soft, lemony scent. It has been valued in European gardens, kitchens and traditional herbal preparations since antiquity. Our organically grown, cut lemon balm leaves come from France.
When brewed, the leaves make a pleasantly gentle infusion with a fresh, herbaceous character. The plant is also loved by bees: its name Melissa is associated with the Greek word for honeybee. Lemon balm is easy to grow, although its vigorous spread is worth keeping in mind if you plant it in a garden.
Enjoying lemon balm
Lemon balm is a lovely choice for an evening ritual, or whenever you fancy a light, naturally caffeine-free cup. Serve plain to appreciate its delicate flavour. In the kitchen, the leaves add citrus notes to salads, fish, vegetables, sauces and desserts. Fresh leaves have a more pronounced fragrance than dried ones.
Traditional use
Lemon balm has a long history of use in herbal traditions, particularly in preparations associated with relaxation and after-meal comfort. Its traditional reputation should not be understood as a guarantee of a medicinal effect.
